Blog tour: The Stag Lord (Bannerman Boru #1) by Darby Kaye (eARC Review)

Synopsis:

On the run across America from a vengeful shape-shifter, Bannerman "Bann" Boru has only one thing on his mind: keeping himself and his young son, Cor, alive.

At any cost.

Until he meets Shay Doyle, healer and member of a secret group of immortal Celtic warriors, the Tuatha de Danaan, living in modern-day Colorado. When Cor is injured, Bannerman is forced to accept her help. He quickly realizes that the golden-haired healer is shield-maiden tough and can hold her own onthe field of battle with the big boys. And Shay soon discovers that there is more to Bann than meets the eye.

Now, with the shape-shifter Cernunnos teaming up with the local pack of Fir Bolgs (Bronze Age creatures with a nasty taste for children), Bannerman, Shay, her wolf-dog Max, and the rest of the Doyle clan must figure out how to battle one insane god.

What people are saying about The Stag Lord:

(December 2nd from Spence City, an imprint of Spencer Hill Press)

"Darby sets a vivid scene as backdrop to a passionate story with a strong romance, and even stronger family unit. She had me at Bann’s Irish brogue, Cor’s young bravery, and Shay’s sheer strength of will, then slayed me with the Doyle family. Darby Kaye’s Tuatha Dé Danann shouldn’t be missed."

-- M.D. Waters, author of Archetype and Prototype

"Darby Karchut's new novel is a refreshing glimpse into the often-visited world of Celtic mythology and tradition. It paints familiar myth with new colors and gives us heroes we want to root for - and reasons to keep turning the pages." --- Walter H. Hunt, author of the Dark Wing Universe and Elements of Mind

"Karchut (Kaye) continues her exploration of the fighting Irish in this crip and feisty urban fantasy. Adult fans...will relish the relationship between an heir to the Celtic throne and the young healer, Shay, whose skills are constantly put to the test." --- D.C. Farmer, author of The 400lb Gorilla (The Hipposync Archives)

“There is no slow burn with this read…a resounding success.”

"...The Stag Lord by Darby Kaye, is a MUST read for all Adult Urban Fantasy lovers." -- Five Stars Goodread Review

My Review:

This is Urban Fantasy at it s best. An amazing storyline with strong and interesting characters, a dash of romance and humor. This is my first book by Ms. Darby Kaye and I am so glad I gave it a shot.
Stag Lord has so many great things that I cant decide what I liked best but I will give it a shot. The relationship between father and son, Bann and Cor, was so beautiful and powerful and so sweet. I loved them both so much. Bann is strong, brave, passionate and prepared to do anything to fight for his son. Cor is an adorable little boy, who has so much courage and charm. His interactions with Max, the dog, were amazing.
I loved the romance between Shay and Bann. It was slow, both trying to overcome their past but realizing that together they can acomplish anything. I loved the mythology, Tuath Dé Danann,  and how the story progressed and I look forward to the sequel  Unholy Blue, which will be released December 2015 from Spence City. A long time to wait, but worth it, I'm sure. Every lover of Urban Fantasy and Celtic background stories should check this book out.
